2021 Sheriff's Department Press Releases Posted on September 16, 2021

All persons arrested or cited are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Nothing newsworthy to report for Tuesday, September 14, 2021.  

The following incidents occurred on Wednesday, September 15, 2021:

Motor Vehicle Crash:

At approximately 7:29 a.m., Deputies, Green County EMS, and the Browntown Fire Department responded to the W7700 block of STH 81 in the Town of Jordan for a report of a two vehicle crash with injuries.  Investigation revealed that Amelia R. Suthers, 18, Monroe, WI, entered the roadway from a driveway.  At this time, her vehicle struck a westbound vehicle that was being operated by Mary S. Johnson, 48, Monroe, WI.  Both vehicles then came to a rest.  

Johnson reported that she was wearing her seatbelt and she sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash.  Johnson was transported by EMS to the Monroe Clinic Emergency Room.  Johnson’s vehicle sustained severe damage and the airbags did not deploy.  The vehicle was towed from the scene.  

Suthers and her juvenile passenger both reported that they were wearing their seatbelts.   Both Suthers and her juvenile passenger sustained non-life threatening injures in the crash and were both transported by EMS to the Monroe Clinic Emergency Room.  The vehicle sustained severe damage and the airbags deployed.   The vehicle was left on scene.  

Johnson was cited for Operate a Motor Vehicle without Insurance.  Suthers was cited for Failure to Yield Emerging from Non-highway Access.  

Traffic Crime:

At approximately 2:21 p.m., a Green County Sheriff’s Deputy was on patrol in a marked squad and was traveling southbound in the N3400 block of STH 69 in the Town of Monroe.   At this time, a southbound motorcycle that was traveling behind the Deputy passed the Deputy in a no passing zone.   The Deputy then conducted a traffic stop on the motorcycle.  The traffic stop resulted in the motorcycle driver, Duane A. Whiting, 67, Genoa, WI, being arrested for Felony Bail Jumping.  Whiting was cited for Operate after Revocation (Traffic Crime), Failure to install an Interlock Ignition Device, and for Speeding.  Whiting was incarcerated in the Green County Jail pending an initial court appearance.  

Motor Vehicle Crash:

At approximately 6:27 p.m., Deputies, Brooklyn EMS, and the Brooklyn Fire Department, responded to the W900 block of Amidon Rd in the Town of Brooklyn for a report of a two vehicle crash.  Investigation revealed that Tonie J. Merrill, 49, Belleville, WI, was traveling westbound on Amidon Rd when her vehicle entered the eastbound travel lane and collided with an eastbound vehicle that was being operated by Kendall P. Flood, 57, Brookyln, WI.  

Merrill reported that she was wearing her seatbelt and she sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash.  Flood reported that he was wearing his seatbelt and he sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash.  The airbags in both vehicles deployed.  Both vehicles sustained disabling damage in the crash and were towed from the scene.   

Merrill was cited for Failure to Keep Vehicle under Control.
