On Friday, February 20, 2026 at 7:06 PM the Sheriff’s Office Communication Center received a 911 call reporting a motor vehicle crash with injuries in the W6400 block of County Hwy C, in the Town of Washington.   The crash location is approximately 4 miles west of the Village of Monticello.   Deputies immediately responded to the scene along with Monticello Fire Department, Green County EMS and New Glarus Fire Department.  

Preliminary investigation determined a 58 year old female of Argyle was stopped in the westbound lane of traffic with hazard lights activated.  The female was outside of the vehicle and was in the process of securing a loose dog that was found alongside the roadway.  As the female was on the driver side of her vehicle, a silver colored eastbound vehicle collided with her.  The eastbound silver vehicle fled the scene of the crash.  The Argyle woman sustained life threatening injuries at the scene and was subsequently flown from the scene by UW Med Flight medical helicopter.  

Green County Sheriff’s Detectives assisted at the scene and the crash remains under investigation at this time.  Detectives are reviewing and processing physical and digital evidence collected at the scene.  It is known that the silver vehicle did sustain damage as a result of the collision.  I encourage any individuals with information about this incident to contact Green County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number at (608) 328 - 9400 or Green County Crimestoppers online at https://greencountycrimestoppers.com/, by phone at 1-800-I-C-CRIME or through the P3 Tips Mobile App.
