On Thursday, January 8, 2026 the Green County Sheriff’s Office received information regarding incidents of Repeated Child Sexual Assaults reported to have taken place in the City of Brodhead and in locations within rural Green County in the Town of Decatur.
Due to the nature of the alleged crimes, the Green County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division was assigned to conduct further investigation. The Green County Sheriff’s Office collaborated with the City of Brodhead Police Department and Green County Human Services to conduct a joint investigation which included utilizing the Child Advocacy Center in Green County to assist in forensic interview(s).
As the investigation continued, Green County Law Enforcement developed probable cause to support the arrest of JONATHON SCOTT ELSNER, 25, of rural Albany, WI.
Members of the Green County Sheriff’s Office arrested ELSNER in the City of Monroe, WI on the afternoon of Monday, January 12, 2026. Following his arrest, ELSNER was transported to the Green County Jail where he was held without bond pending the official issuance of criminal charges and an initial appearance in Green County Circuit Court.
On Wednesday, January 14, 2026 criminal charges were officially issued against JONATHON ELSNER under Green County CCAP case number 2026CF8 in which he was charged with one count of Repeated Sexual Assault of Same Child (At Least 3 Violations of 1st Degree Sexual Assault) contrary to Wisconsin State Statute 948.025 (1)(b). This is a Class B Felony.
Court records note (CCAP) that ELSNER appeared in Green County Circuit Court for an initial appearance on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 14, 2026. During court a cash bond was imposed with CCAP records further noting that the cash bond was since posted. At this time of this release - due to the posting of the cash bond - ELSNER is no longer in the custody of the Green County Sheriff’s Office.
