After an almost 43-year law enforcement career, I have made the very difficult decision to retire, effective June 30, 2024. Simply put, a number of physical challenges are interfering with my ability to serve as Sheriff. It’s time to step aside.
It’s been an honor and a privilege to serve the people of Green County since 1981. I’ve raised my two sons here and been a part of the community for basically my entire adult life. It has given back to me way more than I have been able to give it. I’ll be forever grateful for the partnerships and friendships that we’ve cultivated over the years and know that those friendships will continue.
Knowing that I was in the final years of my career, we’ve been purposeful in hiring and promoting great people who are much smarter than I have ever been. The Green County Sheriff’s Office is in great hands and is well prepared to meet the demands of the present and in the future.
I thank everyone for their support over the years.
Forever grateful,
Jeff Skatrud, Green County Sheriff
