The following events occurred on April 2, 2022:

All person’s arrested or cited are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Motor Vehicle Crash with Injuries / OWI

At 12:17 am, deputies responded to a report of a crash in the N4600 block of STH 104, Decatur Township. Deputies arrived on scene and observed a white 2001 Chevrolet Silverado in the west ditch. The cab of the truck was separated from the frame and wedged between two trees. The frame of the vehicle was resting against a tree in the west ditch. The driver, James Schwartz, 16, of Evansville, was traveling southbound on STH 104, at a high rate of speed when he was distracted by his phone and lost control of the vehicle. James sustained significant non-life-threatening injuries. James was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and the airbags did not deploy.

 

The 14-year-old passenger, sustained significant, non-life-threatening injuries. Both passengers were transported the Mercy hospital in Janesville. 

The investigation resulted in James being taken into custody for OWI causing great bodily harm, to a passenger under 16, and reckless driving causing great bodily harm. James was also issued citations for unreasonable and imprudent speed, left of center, inattentive driving, operating after probationary license hours, failure to fasten seat belt, failure to maintain control of vehicle, and underage drinking.

 

 

Motor Vehicle Crash – Property Damage

At 4:17 PM, Therese M. Risley, 70 of rural Monticello, reported that she went into the ditch in the W6400 blk of CTH C, Town of Washington. She went into the ditch and entered Hilliard Concrete's Quarry. Therese reported wearing her seatbelt and reported no injuries. The airbags did deploy. The vehicle was towed by Don's Towing.

 

 

The following events occurred on April 3, 2022:

 

At 12:44 am, Deputies responded to the intersection of CTH C and Hammerly Ln, Washington Township, for a report of two vehicles in the ditch. The investigation resulted in Gerald L. Parkinson, 62, of Blanchardville, being arrested for OWI 1st offense, and cited for operating with a PAC 1st offense.  He was released to responsible party.
