The first ever Green County Sheriff's Citizen Academy is officially being launched. Our staff has done an excellent job developing a curriculum that will engage citizens and provide a first hand experience into the work that occurs on a daily basis. Below is summary of what can be expected and how to apply if interested.
Mission:
The mission of the Sheriff’s Citizens’ Academy is to build community understanding of how law enforcement, corrections and emergency communications staff serve Green County on a daily basis. This eight-week academy will give community members insight into daily operations, investigations, use of force, enforcement and impaired driving. Through knowledge sharing and engagement Green County will have a stronger partnership with our community to provide professional service.
Schedule:
One night a week for 2 ½ hours over the duration of eight weeks the academy will be held at the Green County Sheriff’s Office. The academy will start at 6 PM and end at 8:30 PM each night.

Week 3 – Wednesday, September 24, 2025
Week 4 – Wednesday, October 1, 2025
Week 5 – Wednesday, October 8, 2025
Week 6 – Wednesday, October 15, 2025
Week 7 – Wednesday, October 22, 2025
Week 8 – Wednesday, October 29, 2025
Application Process:
Requirements – Green County resident, 18 year of age or older, valid driver’s license, no active probation or criminal cases, no prior felony convictions.
Application – Interested citizens must submit a completed application and waiver form to Sheriff Kanable via email sheriff@greensheriff.com or dropping it off in person at the Sheriff’s Office. Applications will be accepted from May 1 to July 1. The application can be found on the Sheriff's Office webpage or picked up in person.
Selection: Class size will be limited to 15 citizens. Selected citizens will be notified on August 1 via email or phone call.
