2024 Sheriff's Department Press Releases Posted on July 08, 2024

The following events occurred on July 7, 2024:

All person’s arrested or cited are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

 

Motor Vehicle Crash – Personal Injury

 

At 10:33 AM, Deputies and Blanchardville Fire responded to the W9200 blk of CTH H, Town of York, for a motorcycle crash with injury. Investigation determined the operator of the motorcycle, Matthew M. Joy, 46 of Chicago, was traveling west on CTH H negotiating a sharp curve in the roadway when he observed an east bound truck and RV coming around the same corner. Matthew cut his turn too far inside after observing this and the bike lost traction, tipping over onto the side and immediately catching on fire. The bike then slid into a driver side tire of the RV and bounced back into the roadway.   The motorcycle was a complete loss due to fire. The east bound truck hauling the RV, being operated by John H. Knicker, 65 of Blanchardville, sustained cosmetic damage to the tire and was driven from the scene.

 

Motor Vehicle Crash – Personal Injury

 

At 4:28 PM, Deputies, along with Belleville Police Department and Belleville Fire Department responded to the N8300 block of Tunnel Rd., in the Town of Exeter for a single vehicle crash with injury.  The investigation found that the driver, Sherrod K. Ross, 27, of Madison, was traveling eastbound when the he traveled into the north shoulder, then into the ditch and struck a tree.  Ross sustained apparent minor injury and was wearing his seatbelt.  The vehicle sustained disabling damage, with no airbag deployment, and was towed from the scene. 

 

 

Warrant Arrest

 

At 10:59 PM, Deputies conducted a traffic stop for a moving violation in the W4000 block of STH 11, in the Town of Sylvester.  The investigation resulted in a passenger of the vehicle, Damn L. Melde, 25, of Dubuque, being placed under arrest for an active arrest warrant through Marquette County.   Melde was later incarcerated at the Green County Jail pending court.
