The following events occurred on June 19, 2024:

OWI:
At 9:45p.m., Deputies along with the New Glarus Police Department, New Glarus EMS, and New Glarus Fire Department responded to the W4900 block of Edelweiss Road, in the Town of New Glarus for a single vehicle crash. Investigation revealed that a vehicle operated by Tyler J. Smith, 39 of Oregon, was traveling westbound when Smith reportedly swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway. The vehicle then entered the north ditch and collided with a tree. Smith sustained injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Smith reported no seatbelt usage and the vehicle airbags deployed. The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene. Investigation resulted in Smith being arrested for Operating Under the Influence (1st-alcohol). Smith was also cited for Failure to Control Vehicle. Smith was released pending court.
