Green County Emergency Management Tornado Update

2024 Sheriff's Department Press Releases Posted on February 13, 2024

 

At approximately 5:12 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2024 an EF1 tornado (as determined by the National Weather Service) with estimated peak winds of 110 mph touched down 6 miles east of the City of Monroe and traveled in a northeasterly direction to approximately 2 miles southeast of the Village of Albany.

 

Several homes and one (1) business on Trail Road, County Road E and Park Road had damage ranging from minor to major as a result of the tornado.  There were no reported injuries or fatalities.  There was originally 40 – 50 Alliant Energy customers without power after the tornado.

 

The Albany Fire Department, Albany EMS, Green County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Decatur, Green County Highway Department and Alliant Energy responded to the scene immediately to render aid.

 

Green County Emergency Management conducted a damage assessment tour on Friday morning.  This information has been forwarded to Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM).

 

Three (3) homes and one (1) business sustained major damage from the tornado.

 

Several residents were unable to stay in their homes their homes on Thursday night after the tornado and found temporary shelter.

 

Debris removal began almost immediately and continues as of Monday morning.  Numerous volunteers helped with the debris removal.  These efforts will continue for several days, if not several weeks.

 

Power was restored to all customers by Friday afternoon.
